The 78th Pope
Saint Donus

Pope Donus(676-678) – Yet another elderly pope and another pope whose pontificate occupies a misty and shadowed landscape. It is recorded that he did restore the See of Revenna to obedience to Rome regarding authority and law.

The pope ferreted out a nest of Nestorians (Syrian monks) who occupied a monastery in Rome. Nestorianism is a heresy that held that Jesus existed in the form of two persons, one divine and one human rather than one divine person. The pope replaced these monks.

The records imply that Pope Donus was concerned with building and refurbishing churches. Pope Donus is buried in the Basilica if Saint Peter.
