The 140th Pope
John XVII

Pope John XVII (1003) – Very, very little is known about his pontificate which lasted about six months. He was born John Sicco, was married and had three children before being ordained. One may assume that he was favored by the powerful Crescentii family. The one prominent act on the pope's part was the sending among the Slavic peoples a number of Polish missionaries. The circumstances of his death, his age, or where he was finally interred are unknown.
