Thought for the Month
A Prayer For Patience

A photo of a small boy fishing

Teach me, Lord,
to be patient in all the events of daily life,
in the disappointments,
and thoughtlessness of others,
the insincerity of those I trusted.

Teach me, Lord,
to profit by the sufferings
that come across my path each day.
Let me so use it that it may mellow me,
not harden or embitter me
and make me patient not irritable,
broad in my forgiveness,
not proud and narrow and overbearing.

Teach me, Lord,
to whisper a word of love to you
as I meet with one cross after another.
May my life be full of power for good
and strong in its purpose of sanctity.

Teach me, Lord,
to fill my heart with the peaceful resignation
that your own Sorrowful Mother had
as you were taken down from your Cross
and laid in her arms.

Amen.
