Pope Leo II (682-683) – Pope Leo hails from the island of Sicily. Much of his pontificate was related to affirming the work of the Third Council of Constantinople which included the very dicey issue of condemning the actions of Pope Honorius I in regard to his handling of Monothelitism. The emperor was pleased with the attitude of cooperation adopted by the pope and responded with imperial favors directed to the Church of Rome.

The pope was a very talented singer and used those talents to improve the state of Church music. He also addressed the needs of the people.

Pope Leo was buried in the Chapel of Madonna della Calonna.
